Ministry Placement
06-14-2009
I never seem to grow weary of my amazement at God’s sovereign hand working to fulfill the promise by Jesus that He will build His church! Over the past six months or so, we have seen a number of people turn to Jesus Christ as their Savior – repenting and believing through the work of God’s Spirit. What joy to see Him add to the church those that would be saved!
In addition, we have seen Him work in placing His saints into strategic roles of ministry so that the Body of Christ might be well served. At times we grieve as servants move on and the Body aches. At other times, the needs of the Body are met by people stepping up and obeying God’s Spirit as He directs them in service. Such is recently true as we have had several major, strategic, ministry positions in need of the right gifts in those who would serve. Here is what God has done:
1) We have needed a couple who would be able to step in to the College Ministry and add a dimension in leadership that would provide a female catalyst for ministry. As we have prayed about this, Mark & Torrey Hardy have answered the call and are going to join Brian Liebich in providing leadership to this important and dynamic ministry to our college age saints. This is a crucial ministry to the life of a church as many college students are drawn away from church either through the lure of churches that are “dating services,” or scholastic pursuits that belittle the faith and rob students of their desire to assemble with the saints. Mark & Torrey will provide a great measure of giftedness to this ministry – we are thrilled at what God has done.
2) The Junior High Ministry is one of the most difficult in the Church – but also one of the most important. At this age, most teens are making their choices as to what direction they will go. Often, by the time the High School youth group get these teens, their “die is cast” already. Thus, we were praying that God would lay this ministry on just the right couple to prioritize these young saints. God answered by moving Scott & Vicki Allgier to take up this challenge and become the principal sponsors/teachers of the Junior High ministry! When this transition is made, it will provide a quality of ministry that we know that God will richly bless.
3) When Scott departs from Marriage Builders there will be a need for someone to assume the leadership of that Fellowship group. C.R. Messer has agreed take charge of this fellowship group. Since God has burdened Pat and me to invest in young couples, I have agreed to come and help with some of the teaching load. I am looking forward to seeing God afford great interaction with this group as C.R. and I (together with our wives) work at encouraging these young couples.
4) Finally, after years of ministry with Children’s Ministries, the Houghams have decided to step aside. Pastor Richard will be overseeing the ministry with the Sunday School & children’s church ministries. We praise the Lord again for His having placed His servants where they need to be at the right time.
Please pray that God will bless these ministries and that GBC will know His direction as He builds the church by His grace and to His glory!
